Copy trading performance fee calculator
Short answer: A performance fee is a share of new profit, paid only when your copied account makes money above its previous high. With a 25% fee, $100 of new profit means $25 fee and $75 for you. Enter your numbers below.
How does a high-water mark work?
The high-water mark is the highest account value on which a fee was already charged. You only pay a fee on profit above that level. If the account drops and later recovers, you pay nothing until it makes new highs. More detail in performance fee explained.
Example with a 25% fee
| Situation | Fee | You keep |
|---|---|---|
| $1,000 grows to $1,100 | $25 | $75 of the $100 profit |
| $1,000 drops to $900 | $0 | The loss is yours |
| $900 recovers to $1,000 | $0 | No new high yet |
This is an illustration. The exact calculation period and rules are set by the broker's subscription terms. Losses are never covered by the strategy provider.
Frequently asked questions
What is a performance fee in copy trading?
A performance fee is a percentage of the new profit your copied account makes. You pay nothing when the account loses or has not yet recovered to its previous high.
Is a 25% performance fee high?
Performance fees in copy trading commonly range from about 10% to 50%. What matters more is the net result after fees and the risk taken, such as the maximum drawdown.
Do I pay a fee if I lose money?
No. With a high-water mark you only pay on profit above the previous highest value. Losses remain yours and must be recovered before a new fee applies.
